Trade Minister Liz Truss reported today that the UK wants to reach a trade agreement with the United States by the middle of next year. However, that date is not a definite deadline.
In a statement, Truss stated that both parties have listed the details for the trade agreement. The details will be used as a basis in the negotiations agreement between the US and the UK.
Earlier, US presidential candidate Joe Biden had warned the UK that it should respect the agreement with Northern Ireland after leaving the European Union (EU), or no trade agreement between the US-UK would be made.
According to Truss, although the date is set for next year, the UK administration is determined to make as much progress as possible before the US election so that the UK can realize the benefits as soon as possible. At the same time, the US Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) is expected to end in the middle of the year, therefore it is important to reach an agreement before that date.
