US 2020 Presidential candidate Donald Trump and his main challenger, Joe Biden began a heated debate in the first 90-minute debate that took place in Cleveland today.
In addition to exchanging title calls, the two candidates also argued on the issue of the coronavirus pandemic, the Supreme Court and the country's economy.
Joe Biden has called the president a 'clown' and told him to 'shut up', while Trump raised the issue of drug use by his rival's son.
The first issue raised was about the Supreme Court, where Trump had nominated Amy Coney Barret to fill the post of judge who was seen to be more in favor of the president in this election.
Next, Biden has slammed Trump with a corovirus issue that has killed more than 200,000 Americans that if the president was more ‘smart’, this situation would not have happened.
Meanwhile, the two candidates also debated their eligibility to drive the US economy through a pandemic crisis.
Trump has emphasized on his business-friendly tax cuts and improvements in the stock market, while Biden has mentioned job creation that he did when he was vice president during the Obama administration.
Immediately after the debate, polls showed that Biden had an advantage over Trump. However, with 35 days left until the election, surveys from several important states show a close gap between the two candidates.
Surveys also show that 1 in 10 Americans has yet to decide who to vote for.
Many investors expect Biden’s victory to lead to a tax hike, while Trump chooses tax cuts and cancellations as better for the stock market as a whole. At the same time, Trump's victory will raise concerns over rising tensions between the US and China.
