German European Minister Michael Roth urged Britain today to suspend a draft law that would drop the country's obligations to the European Union under its withdrawal agreement in line with the timing of the EU-Britain trade agreement.
Ahead of a meeting of EU ministers in Brussels in preparation for the EU summit this weekend, Roth expressed concern over London's plans to pass an internal market bill that would violate international law.
He added that he urged Britain to stop its game because time was running out and they needed justice for further negotiations.
In addition, the bill is alleged to be tabled in parliament next week and has held discussions on trade agreements between Britain and the EU. However, it became chaotic because Britain allegedly refused to respect international agreements.
The so-called internal market bill is very worrying because it violates the guiding principles of the withdrawal agreement.
In addition, he revealed that the EU was deeply disappointed with the outcome of trade negotiations, which involved the issue of EU fishermen access to British waters, fair competition between EU and British companies, and mechanisms to resolve disputes in the future.
He added that EU ministers today would express their strong support for EU Brexit chief negotiator Michel Barnier and his team and reaffirm their strong commitment to a fair trade agreement based on trust and confidence.
