According to the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus Covid-19 vaccine is likely to be ready by the end of the year. Therefore, he called for solidarity and political commitment by all leaders to ensure the distribution of the same vaccine once completed.
Currently, a total of 9 vaccines are being tested to succeed the WHO COVAX global vaccine facility plan which aims to distribute 2 billion doses by the end of 2021.
Meanwhile, a 2-day meeting was held to examine the global response to the outbreak, as well as to hear suggestions from countries including Germany, Britain and Australia to formulate reforms to strengthen UN agencies.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump's administration had strongly criticized the WHO's role in the crisis, claiming it sided with China and did not take appropriate action to question Beijing on the cause of the virus late last year when it first appeared in Wuhan.
However, Tedros denied the allegations and said that his agency had been honest and tried its best for the whole world.
In addition, there are 3 independent panels assigned to review WHO performance including the International Health Regulations 2005 which set guidelines on trade and travel bans imposed during health emergencies.
In addition, Tedros stated that they will strive to make changes and be willing to learn from mistakes so that the same thing does not happen again.
