It is common knowledge that British Airways is one of the most affected airlines as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Today, the airline has announced that its CEO, Alex Cruz, will step down immediately. However, the reason for the resignation was not disclosed.

In addition, the IAG parent group revealed that Cruz has held the post for 4 and a half years and will be replaced by Aer Lingus chief Sean Doyle but will remain non-executive chief.

Meanwhile, new IAG chief executive Luis Gallego, who took over the post from Willie Walsh last month, said the reshuffle was aimed at defending the airline from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has affected demand for air travel.

He added that they are facing the worst crisis in the industry and are confident that this internal reshuffle will ensure that IAG is in a good and strong position.

Not only that! He also thanked the former CEO of British Airways and revealed that he had worked tirelessly to modernize the airline in the years leading up to their 100th anniversary celebrations. Since then, he has led the airline through a very critical phase and managed to seal a restructuring agreement with most of the employees.
