Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has taken legal action against AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) to claim RM78.16 million as outstanding aeronautical charges that the airline failed to pay at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

In addition, the airport operator revealed that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd (MASSB), has submitted a Writ of Summon and a Statement of Claim in the Kuala Lumpur High Court against the airline.

He added that unpaid aeronautical charges include passenger service charges, passenger service safety charges, aerobridge charges, aircraft parking charges, check-in counter charges, landing charges and late payment charges.

As part of its civil claim, MASSB also requested that an ongoing contractual rights to AAX consumer property at KLIA be paid off only after the airline has settled its total debt.

The intended consumer property includes any aircraft, parts, accessories, vehicles, equipment or other property owned or under the control of AAX or any land operator appointed by the airline.
