Europe is currently facing a worsening phase of the pandemic, particularly in Spain, Britain and France, while China is hosting its first post-coronavirus Gold Week holiday, with hundreds of millions moving across the country.
By this afternoon the epidemic had killed at least 1,018,634 people worldwide and recorded more than 34 million cases of infection.
Spain, which is facing a second wave of the virus, has enforced drastic sanctions throughout the capital, despite fierce opposition from Madrid authorities, and most other provinces have agreed to curb sanctions in rapidly contagious areas.
Madrid now reports 780 cases of infection per 100,000 people, compared to only 300 per 100,000 throughout Spain, the most affected country in the European Union.
In Britain, chief scientific adviser Patrick Vallance revealed that measures taken such as social incarceration failed to reduce the number of cases of infection and hospitalization.
Further, the government today has expanded operations to Liverpool and several other cities in northern England, more than a quarter of the country being enforced with stricter restrictions.
In addition, France, especially Paris, faces the possibility of new sanctions after the capital reported a surge in new cases of infection in excess of 250 per 100,000 people.
In addition, the Slovak and Czech governments both decided to declare a state of emergency, starting today and next Monday, to curb the spread of the epidemic.
Meanwhile, Italian football suffered a huge blow today with the postponement of the Genoa weekend match against Torino as the team and staff at the Ligurian club confirmed positive coronavirus. This match is the first in Serie A to be postponed due to an outbreak since the championship began on 19 September.
Meanwhile, in China, which is said to be the cause of the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic beginning late last year, is enjoying a Golden Week holiday marking the founding of the People's Republic in 1949.
According to a bank official from Beijing, Chinese people are traveling to have fun and it is a golden opportunity for them to relax after going through a stressful phase.
