About 4.7 million people in the city of Kashgar, Xinjiang province underwent a screening test after a woman tested positive for Covid-19 despite not showing any symptoms.
The woman was working at a garment factory in Shufu district, a suburb.
Following the case, the Chinese government conducted a large-scale screening test and found 138 asymptomatic cases successfully detected so far.
The case involving the woman is the first local case detected in China in the last 10 days.
Schools in Kashgar were ordered to close and residents were not allowed to leave the city unless they had evidence showing they were negative Covid-19.
As of noon yesterday, more than 2.8 million people have undergone screening tests and the rest will be made in the next two days.
Asymptomatic cases were not recorded in the official Chinese figures which so far recorded 85,810 cases and recorded a total of 4,634 deaths.
Kashgar is inhabited by ethnic Uighurs and Turkish Muslims. Xinjiang province is often threatened by the Chinese government claiming that the Muslim population there is involved in terrorist groups.
Millions of residents were detained and placed in ‘vocational training centers’ as claimed by Beijing.
The United States (US) recently blocked some exports from Xinjiang in connection with China's alleged human rights violations and forced labor.
