While the European Union (EU) and the UK remain silent on the extent of the Brexit trade talks, UK Finance Minister Rishi Sunak expressed his hope that an agreement would be reached.
Sunak told Thursday he was confident and hoped the Brexit trade agreement could be reached with Europe.
With only five weeks left until the UK officially leaves the bloc, both sides are still working to reach a trade agreement that will end the 5 years of uncertainty facing the country.
He also hoped that the EU could see that much of what Britain was asking for was things that they had agreed with other countries.
Meanwhile, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen in an earlier statement said that the bloc was ready to face the possibility of a Brexit no-deal even though he said some progress had been made in negotiations.
An official involved in the negotiations said an agreement between the two parties could take place, but could not be reached before this weekend.
Rishi Sunak's confidence, however, failed to affect investors by seeing a slight decline in pound currency trading at the beginning of the European session.
