The United Kingdom (UK) will reportedly block the installation of Huawei 5G devices as soon as possible starting next year due to political pressure on the Chinese firm.
According to sources, the blockade is expected to start in early September 2021.
Conservative Party MPs submitted their demands through the Telecommunications (Security) Bill tabled in parliament yesterday and will be debated next week.
Through the bill, a fine of 10% of sales or £ 100,000 (over RM480,000) is proposed for local firms that violate the restrictions.
Previously, Boris Johnson had given Huawei limited access to the country's 5G network which had provoked outrage from his own party.
Huawei's involvement in the UK 5G network also created pressure between Washington and London until Johnson decided to remove Huawei in 2027.
In fact the House of Commons ’Defense Committee has suggested to the UK government to block Huawei devices earlier than the stipulated period.
The proposal was prompted by evidence of a dispute between Huawei and Beijing over allegations that the country put pressure on the UK through hidden and blatant threats.
New restrictions on the installation of Huawei devices will be added to the law regarding the purchase of firm requirements.
