According to the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Malaysia has finalized an agreement to purchase 12.8 million doses of Pfizer Inc Covid-19 vaccine which will start shipping in the first quarter of next year. He added that the dose was enough to vaccinate 6.4 million individuals with an initial delivery of one million doses allocated to 500,000 front-line health workers.
In addition, Malaysia has also signed an agreement with Covax Facility for its vaccine, which is enough for about 3 million Malaysians.
Even more exciting is that all Malaysians will be vaccinated against Covid-19 free of charge!
In addition, American pharmaceutical companies have stated their commitment to provide another 1.7 million doses in the second quarter of 2020, followed by 5.8 million and 4.3 million in the third and fourth quarters.
In addition, the vaccine will be issued based on the priority that those in the high-risk group will receive it earlier than the general population.
Meanwhile, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Khairy Jamaluddin said that efforts will continue to be made to get more Covid-19 vaccines for the whole country. According to him, with the COVAX facility and the Pfizer agreement, Malaysia now has a dose for 30% of the population.
