According to Prime Minister Boris Johnson's spokesman on Thursday, Britain still wants to continue face-to-face trade talks with the European Union. However, it all depends on the decision to be taken by the EU and insists that the UK is working to bridge the gap in the trade negotiations.
So far trade talks between the UK and the EU are still underway after one member of the EU team confirmed positive for Covid-19 earlier this month.
Sunak on Thursday said he was confident and hoped the Brexit trade agreement could be reached with Europe. Sunak added, with a firm attitude and goodwill between the two parties then it is not impossible to reach an agreement. He also agreed it was better to reach an agreement than without a new trade agreement.
Sources from the EU say that Chief Consultant Michel Barnier himself is likely to travel to London for further talks with his British counterpart David Frost.
Currently, there are only five weeks left before the deadline of 31 December 2020.
