The Chinese embassy in the Philippines has condemned the actions of the United States (US) which caused 'chaos' in Asia following the White House delegation's visit to Manila yesterday.
U.S. national security adviser Robert O’Brien yesterday expressed US commitment to Taiwan and told the Philippines and Vietnam that Washington had always been supportive of the two countries' dispute with China over the South China Sea issue.
"This shows his visit to the region is not to promote regional peace and stability but to create chaos in the region for the sake of US personal interests," according to a statement issued by the embassy yesterday.
The statement added that the US should stop the confrontation in the South China Sea and stop issuing irresponsible statements on Taiwan and Hong Kong issues, which are indeed China's internal affairs.
"Facts have proven that the US is the biggest trigger for military activity and is the most dangerous external factor in the South China Sea," the statement said.
Meanwhile, O’Brien warned China would face criticism if it continued to use force against Taiwan. China currently describes Taiwan as one of its colonies.
US-China relations are increasingly strained following issues such as technology and human rights, and Washington accuses Beijing of being a 'carrier' of the Covid-19 virus.
China claims 90% of the area in the South China Sea including areas claimed by Malaysia, Brunei, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam. The US has repeatedly sent warships to these waters for the purpose of 'demonstrating' the freedom of navigation in the region.
The US embassy in the Philippines, however, did not respond.
