Following on from Joe Biden's victory as the new president of the United States, the market focus is certainly on Donald Trump's 'good friend', UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Boris Johnson is said to be facing greater pressure to secure a Brexit deal with the European Union (EU) following Joe Biden's victory, according to senior Conservative party (Tories) officials and UK diplomats.

The Foreign Office and Downing Street are reportedly working to assess the implications for President Biden's UK foreign policy, including on the issue of Brexit, climate change, the Middle East, China and NATO.

However, after a phone call on Saturday between PM Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen which ended with still significant differences in some issues, has raised concerns that the two sides may not be able to reach an agreement.

Pro-EU Tories and diplomats are now worried that the possibility of a Brexit no-deal will cause serious pressure between London and Washington as well as jeopardize their special relations.

Previously, Biden had opposed Brexit and sided with the EU by expressing his support for European integration and the Good Friday Agreement.

Biden also once threatened that there would be no agreement on a post-Brexit trade agreement between the UK and the US, if the impact of the Brexit no-deal would affect the Good Friday deal.
