Australia today asked the World Trade Organization to conduct an investigation into China's tariffs on barley imports, to resolve one of several fierce political disputes between the two countries.

In addition, Trade Minister Simon Birmingham is alleged to have denounced Beijing's 80% surcharge on Australian barley shipments and considered it unsupported by facts and evidence and suggested that the WTO take further action.

For all you know, Australian barley exports to China are worth around $ 1 billion a year before the recent drought.

Meanwhile, the move is the first time Australia has taken legal action against China in the WTO which is considered a trade war between Beijing and Canberra.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison revealed that he would impose an unofficial ban on the export of millions of dollars in Australian coal, and that it was an act that violated WTO rules.

Earlier, Beijing had imposed economic sanctions on Australian products, as diplomatic ties with Canberra were allegedly strained since the 1989 Tiananmen Square incident that claimed lives.

It is rumored to be a punishment for Australia rejecting the influence of Bejing, China's investment in sensitive and open areas and involving the issue of investigation into the origin of coronavirus.

According to the Australian GrainGrowers Industry Agency, China's tariffs could cost the sector around $ 1.9 billion over the next 5 years.
