According to a recent report, US President Donald Trump plans to pardon Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht who is serving a life sentence.

When no word was given, Ross's mother, Lyn Ulbricht, expressed her hope to see her son receive a second chance.

For information, Silk Road is an online black market that first gained attention in 2011 before being deleted by the FBI in 2013. It is very synonymous with the crypto sector following any transactions on the platform using Bitcoin (BTC).

The introduction of Silk Road to the world pushed the Bitcoin price to $ 130 from $ 1 and through an article on Silk Road has doubled the value of the coin from $ 18 to over $ 30.

In November, $ 1 billion of Bitcoin assets from Silk Road accounts were seized by the US after a hacker successfully hacked the site and stole the currency.

While Ross is still serving a sentence on 7 charges including drug trafficking, money laundering and other crimes, Trump's decision is supported by the Bitcoin community.

Satoshi Nakamoto Institute founder Michael Goldstein described Trump's decision as an act of restoring justice.

Goldstein posted a tweet on Twitter yesterday, "His investigation is baseless, his detention is clearly cruel and unfair, while media coverage of it is unforgivable."

As of yesterday, online petitions have managed to collect 365,572 votes.
