Taiwan's Ministry of Transport today fined EVA Airways Corp $ 1 million after one of its pilots was found guilty of spreading the Covid-19 virus. This is because he allegedly failed to follow the rules of disease prevention.
For all intents and purposes, Taiwan has so far not reported any domestic contagion cases since April 12, driven by effective early preventive measures to stop the spread of the virus, including the widespread use of face masks and mandatory quarantine for all tourists.
But Tuesday's announcement came as a shock to the country's government when a woman who was a fellow New Zealand pilot was confirmed infected earlier this week with a flight to the United States.
As a result, EVA Air has fired the pilot, who is being treated at the hospital.
However, the case has sparked public outrage after when the pilot did not report all close contacts and locations, or wore a face mask in the cockpit.
According to a statement, the Ministry of Transport revealed that the airline has not fully implemented epidemic prevention measures. Accordingly, the ministry will fine the airline $ 1 million, the maximum fine that can be submitted.
In addition, the airlines are urged to tighten their epidemic prevention measures for air crews as well as enforce their own new regulations.
Therefore, EVA Air, has apologized for the incident, and did not want to submit any response on the issue.
