Two oil wells in Kirkuk province in northern Iraq were bombed today, believed to have been carried out by IS militants, causing a major fire in the area.
The incident was reported at dawn when two bombs planted in a well exploded at a Khubbaz oil plantation west of the capital of Kirkuk province, about 250 km north of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, Xinhua reported, citing sources from the Northern Iraqi Oil Company. .
The explosion of the two bombs has caused a huge fire in the two wells, the source said, besides adding that firefighters have rushed to the scene and are trying to put out the fire.
However, no casualties were reported following the attack, the source added.
This has led to a surge in black commodity trading where the US WTI rose 1.27% to $ 46.18 a barrel, while Brent crude jumped 1.23% to $ 46.17 a barrel.
