U.S. President Joe Biden plans to nominate California Attorney General Xavier Becerra as Secretary of Health and Human Services today.
The matter was revealed by two sources who knew about the information.
Becerra will face the difficult task of leading a health agency after the country faces a Covid-19 infection with over 2,000 to positively recorded daily. The US has recorded over 14 million cases and 281,000 deaths so far.
According to the Mayor of Long Beach, California, Robert Garcia, Biden is so committed to forming a Cabinet of diverse diversity.
Garcia added that Biden has appointed someone who has a good record in healthcare and has a high level of integrity and intellect.
In Congress, Becerra played an important role in passing the Affordable Health Care Act proposed by former President Barack Obama.
Becerra also led a coalition of 20 states to defend the act, also known as Obamacare, before the High Court.
In addition to Becerra, Biden also asked the Director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci, to remain as chief medical advisor.
Becerra served as a U.S. Democrat representative from 1993 to 2017 before returning to California to serve as Attorney General.
