The future President of the United States (US), Joe Biden chose General Lloyd Austin who previously led the US army in the Middle East during the reign of Barack Obama, as Secretary of Defense.

Austin was the first black person to hold the portfolio, thus setting aside the main candidate mentioned earlier, Michelle Flournoy.

However, his candidacy will receive criticism from several parties given his role as a board member in a number of companies including the arms manufacturer, Raytheon Technologies Corp.

Biden, who will be officially inaugurated on January 20, announced members of his health team to address the growing issue of coronavirus pandemics in the country.

He elected California Attorney General Xavier Becerra as Secretary of Health and Human Services and Dr. Rochelle Walensky to operate the US Centers for Control and Prevention (CDC).

Meanwhile, Dr. Anthony Fauci was named chief medical advisor for Covid-19.

In addition, Biden appointed Jeff Zients as an economic advisor known for his good management skills and he was tasked with overseeing operations distributing hundreds of millions of new vaccine doses.
