Nestle ‘Affected’, Fined RM90,000!

 Nestle Manufacturing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Nestle Manufacturing) was fined RM90,000 by the Sessions Court here today on 2 charges of releasing industrial waste beyond acceptable limits.


The sentence was handed down by judge Rofiah Mohamad after the company, represented by Nestle Manufacturing Safety and Health manager K. Arunan, changed his plea to both charges.


In dropping the fine, Rofiah said she took into account that environmental pollution was a serious case and involved the public interest.



For everyone's information, the company is charged under Regulation 11 (1) (b) of the Environmental Quality (Industrial Effluent) Regulations 2009 by releasing 5 types of industrial effluent containing Biochemical Oxygen Demand Requirement (BOD5) exceeding the standard limit to inland waters. Next, they were charged with releasing excessive concentrated chemical oxygen demand (COD).


Apart from that, the offense was committed at his premises located at Jalan Playar 15/1, Section 15 Shah Alam on 21 May 2019 between 10.10 am to 1 noon.


Accordingly, the company was fined RM50,000 for the first charge and RM40,000 for the second charge.


Meanwhile, the prosecution was submitted by Selangor Environment Department officer Nor Faizura Mohd Ali, while Nestle Manufacturing was represented by a lawyer. J. Rao.
