Pfizer Inc is the first firm to submit a vaccine emergency use application in India following the record for the second highest coronavirus infection in the world.

The announcement was made by health advisors in a television interview on Sunday.

The COVID-19 vaccine from the United States (US) firm was previously approved in Britain before obtaining permission from the Indian administration on Saturday.

According to government adviser on coronavirus infection, V. K. Paul, Indian drug regulators typically take 90 days to consider an application for permission to use.

However, the decision to use the Pfizer vaccine will not take long.

Earlier in November, Paul said vaccines run by both Pfizer and Moderna Inc. were not available in large quantities for India, prompting them to expect vaccines from AstraZeneca and Oxford University.

To date, COVID-19 infection in India has claimed 140,590 lives and active cases recorded a total of 396,712 cases, leading to a total of almost 10 million cases.

However, the Indian health ministry and Pfizer did not comment on the matter.
