The administration of the President of the United States (US), Donald Trump was reportedly in talks with the United Kingdom (UK) to sign a mini-agreement to reduce trade tariffs.
US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said he hoped the agreement could be finalized.
The UK recently stated it would lower tariffs on US subsidies for aerospace companies.
In its first international interview, Lightizer suggested the UK should take drastic measures against the country's announcement that it would no longer impose tariffs on Boeing imports last week.
"I have discussed with British International Trade Secretary Liz Truss about the matter of concluding several agreements. I hope we can sign a deal, we will not know because we do not have much time.
"We have an advantage because the US and the UK, especially the current UK government do not provide large subsidies while some other countries are more likely to provide subsidies. Therefore, it is better if we can reach an agreement, ”said Lightizer.
Meanwhile, when asked about the demand to comply with UK standards on meat and poultry and change the UK National Health Services (NHS) method for US medicines, Lightizer informed that negotiations are underway.
"You know, obviously, the US needs additional access to the UK agricultural market, that is an important part of the negotiations, everyone needs to get something out of it. This is a complicated technical problem and those matters are something that needs to be resolved at the final stage of negotiations, ”he explained.
