Australia has finally approved the Covid-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNTech for use in the country.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) gave temporary approval to the Pfizer vaccine on Monday saying it met safety, efficacy and quality standards.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the country's medical regulator was one of the first in the world to approve the use of the vaccine.
Priority vaccination with Pfizer vaccine is expected to begin in late February, with 80,000 doses per week, Health Minister Greg Hunt told reporters.
In the meantime, Pfizer has told the Australian government that it expects supply to continue, but they will also provide a global production guide in mid-February for March and beyond every week.
Meanwhile in a separate report, the distribution of AstraZeneca vaccines in the country seems to be facing difficulties after the pharmaceutical company warned that it was experiencing supply problems and failed to meet some of the demand in March as previously promised.
The Aussie dollar seems to be welcoming news of the approval of the Pfizer vaccine by showing a higher upside against the USD today, although at the beginning of the Asian session its movement was quite limited.
