Considerations to oust President Donald Trump following a pro-Trump riot at the Capitol on Wednesday are hotly debated at the moment.

Reuters reports, citing a statement from a source familiar with the matter, saying there were some preliminary discussions among some members of the cabinet and Trump allies over the amendment to the 25th Amendment.

What is the 25th Amendment?

The 25th Amendment allows the Vice President to act as interim President, in case the President is ill or unable to carry out his duties.

In the current situation in the US, speculation states Trump has a mental problem.

This follows President Trump's video saying he still could not accept the results of the 2020 election and invited his supporters to the Capitol.

Following that, there were discussions to urge US Vice President Mike Pence to apply for the 25th Amendment and remove Trump from office.

However, so far no official motion has been sent to Pence, CBS News reported, and CNN reported that it was unclear whether there was enough support from the Cabinet to force the ouster of the President.

Meanwhile in a recent development in Congress, Joe Biden is only one step away from being confirmed as President of the United States after the Senate rejected opposition to an electoral vote from Pennsylvania.

Biden is expected to be confirmed as president-elect by Congress when the Vermont election vote opens Thursday morning.
