The Mexican government will consider the possibility of creating a national social network that guarantees freedom of speech following the massive restrictions on President Donald Trump's account.
The matter was informed by the President of Mexico, Andres Manuel López Obrador as quoted by the Sputnik news agency reported by Bernama.
"We will continue to think, the analysis of everything related to social networks, we care about freedom. So, this is an issue that we want to address, and we do not deny that the National Council on Science and Technology, Ministry of Home Affairs, law department, foreign ministry and communications will look for alternatives and other methods, "he said in a press conference posted on Twitter officially owned by the government.
Lopez Obrador stressed that the government's main intention is to ensure freedom in the country and there is no censorship.
"I have been talking about the actions of Twitter and Facebook recently. Again, it is impossible for a particular company to be established as a global screening institution… This is not acceptable and allowed, because it is against freedom, ”he said.
Twitter, Facebook and other social networking platforms have previously acted to suspend Trump accounts and some of them are permanent.
Trump on Tuesday said social media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook, had made a ‘big mistake’ by blocking it and warning of ‘retaliation’.
Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms have suspended Trump following the actions of a group of his supporters who raided the US Capitol on January 6 in protest of a member of parliament's confirmation of his rival electoral vote, Joe Biden of the Democrats.
The group clashed with police and caused damage to public property. Six people, including a policeman and a Trump supporter, were killed in the incident.
