Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to make a special announcement in reaction to the current situation which has recorded an increase in the number of Covid-19 pandemic cases. This statement was made personally by Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob when Malaysia reported the highest number of daily deaths due to the pandemic.
In recent times, Southeast Asian countries have experienced a significant upward trend. In this week, reports have reported that almost every day Malaysia records four digits of infection cases starting from the end of November 2020, until the highest daily COVID-19 case record was recorded yesterday.
On Friday, 16 people were reported dead, bringing the death toll to Covid-19 to 537. The health ministry also reported a total of 2,643 new infections, bringing the total number of cases to 131,108 cases.
The Malaysian administration has stated that it is considering imposing targeted controls in some areas despite warnings from the business sector that the move could weaken the economy.
According to Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the Government is evaluating the steps that need to be taken immediately to ensure that the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic can be controlled.
On the other hand, Rembau Member of Parliament Khairy Jamaluddin, who is also the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, said the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Division (NPRA) has approved the conditional registration for the Pfizer vaccine and is currently awaiting more feedback from the company.
Malaysia, which has purchased 12.8 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, is expected to receive the first vaccine delivery next month.
