Republicans 'Divided' Because of Trump

In support of Democrats' efforts to oust US President Donald Trump, several Republicans in the House of Representatives are facing 'threats'.

One of them is the third highest-ranking Republican leader in the House of Representatives, Liz Cheney.

Cheney, who was a member of the Wyoming Congress and his father was Vice President during the George W Bush administration, faced immediate pressure to resign after voting for Trump to be fired for triggering a riot on the Capitol on January 6.

According to Cheney, he will not resign because he feels his actions in support of Trump's dismissal motion are justified.

Cheney added that although there are different views among Republicans, the US has faced a bad political crisis since the Civil War.

Meanwhile, Michigan Republican MP Peter Meijer said he and several members of Congress had to buy body armor and change their normal daily routine after receiving threats.

"It's very sad we have to get to that point but you know we expect someone will probably try to kill us.

"We do not know what will happen after this. We did not expect the Capitol to be attacked for the first time in 200 years, ”he said.

Trump was charged a second time and became the only U.S. president to face such an action.

He will be tried in the Senate and if found guilty, Trump will not be allowed to hold any position in government administration.
