Sriwijaya Air Black Box Search Mission Continued

The Indonesian diving team is expected to continue searching for the black box of the Sriwijaya Air Boeing 737 plane that crashed last Saturday.


The plane, which was carrying 62 passengers on its way to Borneo, disappeared from radar shortly after takeoff.


According to Reuters, the search team found the wreckage and the body of the victim.


Earlier, the Indonesian authorities had tracked down the exact location of the black box and began searching for information on the incident.


According to the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) investigator, Nurcahyo Utomo, they hope the black box will be found today.



He added that the plane crashed when it crashed in the water based on the location of the wreckage found so far.


Sriwijaya Air departed from Jakarta International Airport at 2.36 pm local time last Saturday.


A few minutes later, at 2.40 pm, the plane disappeared from radar and lost contact.


According to the aircraft tracking website, Sriwijaya Air reportedly crashed from an altitude of more than 3,000 meters in less than a minute.


Witnesses said they saw and heard an explosion as the plane crashed.
