Taiwan reported a 'massive invasion' of Chinese warplanes in the country's airspace for two consecutive days.
According to the BBC, a total of 15 Beijing planes were involved in military exercises which were allegedly deliberately held to warn the United States (US).
According to a statement from Taiwan's Defense Ministry, a total of 8 Chinese bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons, 4 fighter jets and one anti-submarine aircraft entered the country's southwestern air defense identification zone last Saturday.
The statement added that yesterday's operation involved 12 fighter jets, two anti-submarine aircraft and a spy plane.
The Taiwan Air Force deployed an air defense missile system to monitor all aircraft during the military exercise.
No official statement has been issued by the Chinese government so far.
China has often claimed that Taiwan is a separate territory, but Taipei has denied the allegations and asserted that it was an independent country.
Analysts say China is deliberately testing the level of US President Joe Biden's support for Taiwan.
Meanwhile, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said the US would continue to strengthen ties with Taiwan.
"The US is concerned about China's attempts to continue to intimidate its neighbors, including Taiwan.
"We urge Beijing to stop military, diplomatic and economic pressures on Taiwan and instead engage in meaningful dialogue with democratically elected Taiwanese representatives," Price said.
