German Chancellor Angela Merkel today delivered a speech to conservative party legislators that she hoped a 'lockdown' measure could be implemented in Germany to curb the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic. He suggested that a 'lockdown' or movement control order could be implemented until early April.
Merkel also warned that the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic is on the rise with a surge in infection cases nearly tenfold in Germany.
According to Merkel, the next eight to ten weeks are a very critical time if the case of Covid-19 infection from the British spreads to Germany. He also argues that the tenfold increase is related to the number of infections in Ireland.
Germany had begun tightening movement controls last week by extending tightening measures to the end of January due to fears that pandemic variants found in Britain would spread to Germany.
So far Germany has recorded 1,942,951 cases of Covid-19 infection with 42,231 deaths. However, the recovery rate was also high with a reading of 1,570,000 people.
