Late last year, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that the world community should not be too comfortable and insisted that the Covid-19 vaccine would not fully help the world to deal with COVID-19 infection.
Since the beginning of 2021, the world has been facing a more challenging Covid-19 epidemic, coupled with an accelerating epidemic of new variants. This new variant was first identified since the end of 20201 with the UK and several European countries being among the countries facing this challenge.
With the global death toll now exceeding two million, and concerns over the discovery of new variants, countries around the world are struggling to slow the spread of infection until vaccines are widely available. Meanwhile, South African strains, which are more contagious and virus-like as detected in the UK, have reportedly spread to 23 countries and territories.
This has raised concerns among many parties. Even so, the anxiety began to subside after Moderna vaccine manufacturers released a statement today that their vaccines are effective in preventing new variants found in South Africa.
According to Moderna researchers, their vaccines are effective against two new variants found in the UK and South Africa but are less effective against third parties.
This report has raised the expectations of many parties after many concerns arose around this variant.
