To answer questions about the origins of the coronavirus outbreak, which has been the subject of controversy in several countries, Beijing health authorities announced they had agreed to allow the World Health Organization (WHO) investigation team to conduct an investigation.
A team of WHO international experts tasked with investigating the origins of the Covid-19 pandemic is said to arrive in China on January 14.
The team initially reportedly wanted to enter Beijing in early January, but was blocked by China on the grounds that visas had not been approved even though some members of the group were on their way.
WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed his frustration and said that he had asked permission to bring in the troops from China.
However, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the sanctions were just a misunderstanding and they were allowed to enter the country to conduct an investigation.
Earlier, several countries including the United States and Australia have urged the WHO to investigate the origins of the coronavirus which has affected the world economy and claimed nearly 2 million lives with more than 90 million cases so far.
The call has caused controversy for Australia and China, with some restrictions on imports from Canberra.
