Covid-19 vaccine arrives in Malaysia!

 The special aircraft carrying the first batch of Pzer-BioNTech vaccines for Malaysians, landed safely at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) this morning.


Flight MH604 carrying 312,390 doses of Covid-19 vaccine landed at 10.07am.


Operated by MAB Cargo Sdn Bhd (MASKargo), the cargo arm of the national carrier Malaysia Airlines Bhd, the Passenger-to-Cargo (P2C) flight uses an Airbus 330-300 aircraft to carry the Covid-19 vaccine.


Bernama reports that upon landing, the process of transferring the vaccine housed in a unit load device (ULD) from the cargo section of the aircraft to a truck belonging to a company

logistics, DHL Express takes place at the Advanced Cargo Center (ACC) area, KLIA.


Among those present to witness the historic moment of the vaccine's arrival was the Minister of Health, Datuk Seri Dr. Adham Baba; Coordinating Minister for the National Covid-19 Immunization Program who is also the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation; Khairy Jamaluddin and the Minister of Transport, Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong.



After the evacuation process, the logistics company truck was accompanied by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to the vaccine storage location set as a safety measure.


The vaccine journey from the Pzer plant in Belgium was managed by the pharmaceutical company and DHL, a leader in the logistics industry, through a global agreement.


The vaccine departs from Puurs, Belgium and transits at Germany's airport, Leipzig Halle Airport, before continuing on to Singapore for distribution to other Asia-Pacific countries including Malaysia.


The Ministry of Health (MOH) on behalf of the Malaysian government has entered into an agreement with Pzer (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd on January 11 for the purchase of the Pzer-BioNTech vaccine, after starting discussions at the end of last year.


The Pzer-BioNTech vaccine is the first vaccine to obtain conditional approval from the Drug Control Authority (PBKD) and the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Division (NPRA) on January 8.


The arrival of the first batch of Covid-19 vaccines boosted the momentum of the National Covid-19 Immunization Program, the largest vaccination program in the country which will begin on February 26.
