An air base in northern Iraq that is home to U.S. military forces has been the target of a rocket attack on Monday.
The attack reportedly killed a civilian contractor and injured five people, including a U.S. service member.
At least three rockets have been launched into U.S. air bases in the Kurdish provincial capital, where two rockets have reportedly landed in the Waziran neighborhood near Erbil airport.
According to Reuters, Saraya Awliya al-Dam, a group believed to have ties to Iran, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was targeting the American population in Iraq. However, it did not provide evidence for his claim.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued late Monday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the United States was 'angry' with the attack.
Blinken also said that he had contacted the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan District Government, Masrour Barzani, to discuss the incident and promised to support all efforts to investigate and find those responsible.
