The United Nations (UN) atomic agency says Iran has violated the latest 2015 nuclear deal, namely by starting to produce uranium metal the main material for nuclear weapons.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed on February 8 that Iran had produced a small amount of uranium at a nuclear plant in Isfahan.

The 2015 agreement between Iran and the United States, China, Russia, Britain, France and Germany, known as the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA) imposes sanctions on Iran's nuclear program in return for the removal of international and US economic sanctions.

However, Tehran began violating several clauses of the deal after Washington withdrew from the deal and dropped sanctions under the administration of President Donald Trump.

Iran says it remains in the deal, and mentions about the U.S. violating the deal by withdrawing from the deal in 2018 and re-imposing sanctions.

The Iranian government insists the US must take the first step by re-imposing sanctions before Tehran re-enforces the agreement.
