US President Joe Biden has insisted he will not lift economic sanctions against Iran until the country complies with the terms agreed in the 2015 nuclear deal.
The statement was made by Biden during an interview with CBS News yesterday.
Responding to Biden's statement, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Tehran would only return to complying with the terms if the US lifted economic sanctions.
"We will look into it and if we see that they have acted transparently in this matter, we will return to our commitment," said Ayatollah.
The agreement was implemented to limit Iran's nuclear program and economic sanctions against Tehran would be relaxed.
Former US President Donald Trump withdrew from the deal in 2018 and returned to imposing economic sanctions on Iran.
Trump wants to impose sanctions on Iran's nuclear program as well as stop the development of its ballistic missile production.
Iran, however, refused. In July 2019, Tehran violated the uranium enrichment supply limit of 3.67%.
Iran, which claims its nuclear program is being conducted peacefully, has increased its supply of enriched uranium by up to 20% in January.
Enriched uranium can be used not only to produce reactor fuel but also nuclear bombs.
