Technology-related stock counters, especially semiconductor manufacturers, continued to soar on the first day of the trading session after the Chinese New Year holiday.
At 11.30am, shares in Vitrox Corp Bhd, Genetec Technology Bhd, Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI), KESM Industries Bhd and Pentamaster Corp Bhd were among the top local counters to record profits today.
Shares in Vitrox traded at an all-time high of RM17.88, after jumping 3.47% or 60 sen.
The counter is the fourth most profitable counter today. At current prices, the market value of Vitrox is recorded at RM8.44 billion.
At the same time, MPI shares were also trading at an all-time high.
Shares of MPI rose by 1.19% or 46 sen, making it the sixth highest counter that recorded a profit this morning.
In addition, MPI shares traded at RM39.06 per share and its market value was recorded at RM8.2 billion.
Meanwhile, KESM shares jumped 1.92% or 32 sen to RM16.98 per share, recording the highest level in two and a half years.
KESM currently records its market value of RM729.53 million.
Following in the footsteps of Vitrox and MPI is Pentamaster when it also recorded the highest level of all time in today's trading session.
Pentamaster shares ranked 13th in the list of gainers today after recording a jump of 4% or 27 sen to RM6.76 per share.
Not to be outdone, Genetec shares also recorded an all-time high after rising by 12.42% or 59 sen to RM5.34. Its market value is currently recorded at RM238.87 million.
From an index perspective, the Bursa Malaysia Technology Index is the second highest index that performed well in today's trading session when recording a jump of 1.95% or 1.71 points to 89.38.
The semiconductor sector has been in trouble in recent months due to excessive demand for computer chips since the inception of the Covid-19 pandemic, making it difficult for chip suppliers to meet market demand.
