North Korea is selling expensive, relations with the US are getting tense

The President of the United States (US), Joe Biden said he had tried to contact North Korea since last month but still had not received any response.

According to U.S. officials, Washington has tried to contact Pyongyang through a number of different means to avoid any escalating tensions.

The U.S. and North Korea are still at a dead end over Pyongyang's missile and nuclear programs.

Three previous meetings between former US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un have not found any solution.

All of those talks failed to persuade North Korea to halt its nuclear weapons program, something the U.S. and several other Western countries have demanded.

North Korean local media has yet to recognize Biden as US President.

U.S. efforts to connect with North Korea include through the North Korean mission at the United Nations (UN).

Biden has announced a policy assessment of North Korea, which will be announced next month.

He described Jong-un as a ‘rogue’ and stressed the need for Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons program to be stopped before economic sanctions against North Korea are eased.

Jong-un continues to demonstrate his weapon capabilities and claims the development of closer-range long-range missiles, ‘super large’ nuclear explosives, spy satellites and nuclear-powered submarines.

At the same time, he urged the US to stop its hostile policy.

Relations between the U.S. and North Korea became increasingly strained in 2017 when Pyongyang tested long-range missiles capable of striking U.S. cities.
