U.S. authorities approve the coronavirus vaccine produced by Johnson & Johnson (J&J).

Interestingly, the vaccine only needs to be injected once compared to other vaccines.

The vaccine is a cost-effective alternative to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines and can be stored in the refrigerator compared to the previous frozen refrigerator.

Tests conducted in the US, South Africa and Brazil found that the effectiveness of the vaccine was 85% in preventing serious illness.

The vaccine was developed by Janssen Pharmaceutica J&J.

The company has agreed to supply 100 million doses to the US by the end of June.

The first dose of the vaccine is likely to be given to US citizens as early as next week.

The United Kingdom (UK), the European Union (EU) and Canada also ordered the vaccine and 500 million doses were also ordered through the Covax scheme for poor countries.

According to French Industry Minister Agnes Pannier-Runacher, the European Medicines Agency is likely to approve the vaccine for the EU earlier this month.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden expressed his happiness over the production of the latest vaccine but warned that the fight against Covid-19 is not over yet.

"As we welcome the good news today, I call on all Americans to stay clean, do social imprisonment and always wear face masks.

"As I said before, the situation can get worse again due to the spread of new variants and the latest developments can turn out to be bad," he said in a statement issued.
