The European Union (EU) and the UK are trying to ease tensions over the issue of the coronavirus vaccine despite some senior Brussels officials accusing Britain of ‘vaccine nationalism’ in response to the pandemic.

Britain and the European Commission issued a joint statement saying there had been talks to develop a mutually beneficial relationship to tackle Covid-19.

The statement binds both sides to work together in creating a win-win situation and expanding the supply of vaccines to all citizens of Europe.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson insists he does not want to see a vaccine war.

Accordingly, EU leaders will reportedly discuss ways to increase supplies and vaccinations across Europe today.

Earlier, the EU had threatened to restrict vaccine exports to countries such as Britain that have higher vaccination rates.

The aim is to protect supplies for the European population currently hit by the third wave of the Covid-19 epidemic.
