The WallStreetBets (WSB) community on Reddit made a ‘surprise’ once again when it took in about 3,500 gorillas as foster animals in six days.
According to the KnowYourMeme portal, the community members often refer to each other as ‘apes’ and the words of Caesar’s character in the movie ‘Planet of the Apes’ i.e. ‘apes strong together’ are used as the motto in the Reddit status.
However, there are also community members who claim to call themselves a ‘group of apes’ because they think they are like monkeys pressing buttons on a keyboard to buy shares.
WSB members also often use gorilla emojis in their statuses.
Since Friday last week, WSB members have sent donations of more than US $ 350,000 to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International organization that protects endangered mountain gorillas.
The president of the organization, Dr. Tara Stoinski expressed her happiness over the efforts of the WSB community.
“They really make a difference for our world and show what can be achieved when human beings are united.
"When we save gorillas and we save forests, we save our world," he said.
According to the organization via Twitter, it is likely that 20 more gorillas will be adopted by this weekend.
“It’s safe to say the investor community on Reddit isn’t what we traditionally think of as our supporters. But they really surprised us and moved us, ”added Stoinski.
