The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced Tuesday that they will temporarily stop the use of the Covid-19 vaccine manufactured by Johnson & Johnson.

The announcement was made after six recipients of the vaccine developed blood clotting problems within two weeks of receiving the injection.

According to the CDC, nearly 7 million U.S. citizens have received the vaccine so far, with an additional 9 million doses having been shipped nationwide.

Of the six recipients who had blood clotting problems, one had died and another had been hospitalized and was in critical condition. All six recipients were women between the ages of 18 and 48 years.

Following that, Johnson & Johnson announced at today’s Asian session that they would postpone the launch of the vaccine in Europe.

The company said it was aware of health problems caused by injections from its vaccine and told vaccinations would be stopped in all ongoing clinical trials.

Meanwhile, White House Covid-19 response coordinator Jeffrey Zients said the Johnson & Johnson vaccine delay would not have a significant impact on vaccination measures in the US.
