The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced that citizens of the country who have received a full injection of the Covid-19 vaccine will no longer need to wear face masks when outdoors.

According to the latest guidelines issued, the use of face masks is not mandatory if they are alone or in a small group of those who have also been vaccinated.

However, the use of face masks is still required in a closed or crowded place.

More than 95 million U.S. citizens have received the vaccine to date.

Following the CDC's announcement yesterday, President Joe Biden welcomed the new guidelines and described them as a good development.

“Our scientists are convinced by the data that the likelihood of spreading or receiving the vaccine to others is very, very low.

"If you've been vaccinated, you can do a lot of things," Biden said.

Biden also urged Americans who have not yet received the vaccine, to do so as it is a ‘patriotic act’.

"Vaccines are about saving your life but also the lives of people around you but vaccines also help us get back closer to normal life," he explained.

Evidence suggests that although Covid-19 infection is easily spread in open areas, the risk of transmission is very low for those who have received a full injection.

Preliminary studies also found that those who had received a full injection of the vaccine, were not at high risk of spreading Covid-19.
