Shares of Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd rose 5.88% or 6 sen in trading this morning after the company announced it would be the exclusive distributor for the Disney+ Hotstar streaming services platform.
The company's counter on Bursa Malaysia opened 0.98% or one sen higher today at RM1.03 compared to the previous close of RM1.02.
As the trading session closed at noon, Astro was at RM1.07 per share, bringing its market capitalization to RM5.58 billion.
A total of 9.98 million shares were traded, exceeding the 200 -day average trading value of 3.38 million shares.
Earlier today, Astro announced its partnership with The Walt Disney Company for The Disney Hotstar+ streaming platform which will be launched in the country on June 1.
Through the company's statement today, viewers will enjoy content from various providers including Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic as well as various local entertainment series and movies.
People can subscribe directly to Disney+ Hotstar for RM54.90 for three months or through a special package with Astro to get access to various content collections.
Disney+ Hotstar will also be available to Astro Movies Pack customers for an additional fee of RM5 per month while those who do not subscribe to the Movies Pack can access the service through other packages.
