UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to announce further easing of sanctions measures in England today.

According to Reuters, PM Johnson will hold a press conference in the afternoon (UK time) to make this important announcement and he will also give further details on how and when the sanctions measures will be lifted.

Advances in vaccination programs in the UK have seen the number of cases and daily deaths in Britain drop sharply, with only two deaths reported on Sunday.

As of May 9, more than 35 million people have received at least one dose of the vaccine, marking half of the population has been vaccinated. While more than 17 million have received two doses of the vaccine.

The next relaxation in the restriction measure is expected to take effect on May 17, 2021, where pubs, restaurants and cinemas will reopen.

However, the reopening is said to only be enforced in England, with the governments of Scotland, Northern Ireland and South Wales set to set their own rules.

Following the report, the pound traded higher around 1.40700 against the US dollar despite pressure from the Scottish election results that could pose a risk to Britain.
