Elon Musk’s company, SpaceX will launch ‘Mission to the Moon DOGE-1’ in the first quarter of 2022, with the company receiving Dogecoin as full payment for its mission payload to its moon.

Geometric Energy Corporation announced the mission yesterday while the SpaceX communications team confirmed the matter via email to reporters.

However, the financial value of the mission was not disclosed.

DOGE-1 will fly a 40 kilogram cube satellite as a payload on the Falcon 9 rocket.

According to Geometric Energy Corporation, the payload will derive lunar spatial intelligence from sensors and cameras in aircraft with integrated communications and computer systems.

Meanwhile, said SpaceX Vice President of Commercial Sales Tom Ochinero, DOGE-1 will demonstrate the use of cryptocurrencies beyond Earth's orbit and lay the groundwork for interplanetary trade dealings.

“We are excited to launch DOGE-1 to the Moon,” Ochinero said.

Earlier, Musk announced his company's plan via Twitter on April 1.

The announcement of the DOGE-1 mission was made after Musk, dubbed Dogefather, made his first appearance as a host on the Saturday Night Live show.

The price of dogecoin declined during its appearance, dropping below US $ 0.50.
