In the turmoil of the volatile cryptocurrency market, Central Planning Bureau (CPB) director Pieter Hasekamp wants Bitcoin (BTC) to be completely blocked in the Netherlands.
The call was voiced through an article uploaded in the newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad and on the official website of the CPB.
Clearly, the Netherlands is too late compared to other countries that are increasingly ‘gripping’ the cryptocurrency market with strict laws.
Even Hasekamp believes cryptocurrency is not suitable to replace fiat money even though it has value and it is an inevitable ‘bubble’.
“Cryptocurrency is basically not a currency or a financial product. As Nobel laureate Robert Shiller put it, it's just a contagious ‘contagious’ story where people believe because others believe it. ”
Maybe Hasekamp missed the story but Shiller has recently expressed his desire to be actively involved in the BTC market because crypto for him is an amazing technology.
However finance minister Wopke Hoekstra rejected Hasekamp's proposal on the grounds that it was not the best idea for now.
"It is better to just monitor the crypto industry because it is more effective than absolute restrictions," he said.
