World leaders attending the Group of Seven (G7) summit on Sunday have issued calls for a new investigation into the origins of Covid-19 and criticized the issue of human rights violations in China.

The G7, comprising Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States, met in Cornwall, UK for three days (June 11-13) with the aim of uniting democracies leading to helping rebuild a better world well from a pandemic crisis.

Although not present at the summit, China has been the main focus of discussions, in which the US announced a massive infrastructure plan to overtake the Belt and Road Initiative by Beijing.

The G7 approved a global infrastructure plan called ‘Build Back a Better World’ (B3W), an infrastructure partnership driven by values, high standards and transparency led by key democracies, according to a statement by the US government.

B3W will collectively be a catalyst for hundreds of billions of dollars of infrastructure investment for low- and middle-income countries in the next few years, as well as mobilizing private capital through development financing.

In addition, the United States, Britain and the European Union (EU) also called for a more transparent and responsible study to be conducted in finding out the origins of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The call was made following an earlier directive by US President Joe Biden that gave the country's intelligence group 90 days to conduct an investigation into the cause of the outbreak.

Meanwhile, they also agreed to oppose human rights violations in Xinjiang and crackdowns on political dissidents in Hong Kong.

The group is also serious about the situation in the East and South China Seas and strongly opposes any unilateral attempt to change the status quo and increase tensions.
