China’s mission to the European Union (EU) is urging the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to stop exaggerating ‘China’s threat theory’ after the group’s leaders claimed Beijing posed a systemic challenge to other countries.

NATO leaders on Monday took a firm stance against Beijing at a summit held in Brussels.

"China's resolute ambitions and behavior express a systemic challenge to international order based on rules and areas related to alliance security," the NATO leader said.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden has urged fellow NATO leaders to oppose China’s authoritarianism (a system of leadership where leaders have absolute power) and growing military strength.

However, NATO’s statement has met with fierce opposition from Beijing who say the group’s statement is to slander China’s peaceful development and show a Cold War mentality.

Through a statement released through its mission website to the European Union, China said that they would not pose systemic opposition to any country.

The NATO summit took place on Monday, a day after a meeting of G7 nations in Britain, where leaders have united to oppose China’s human rights violations and demand a full investigation into the origins of the coronavirus.
